Reviews
AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING STAFF. Takes me right back to Trinidad, ???????? the doubles are to die for real authentic doubles. Fish thali was amazing it was an experience, several small dishes in one meal. It feels like a journey not meal. Going back next weekend and the chef/owner even came over and spoke to us personally. Amazing independent restaurant.
I have to be honest in my review and say it did not really meet my expectations, maybe my expectations were too high as I was going there for, and expecting a real Trinidadian experience which I did not receive. To begin with, the furniture for me was not up to standard, it was extremely basic like bargain furniture. Regarding the atmosphere, I expected more of a ‘Trini’ atmosphere, the music should have at least been Trinidadian, the waitresses just wore their own clothing so, it was difficult to know who was staff and who was not. They should all have been wearing something to represent Trinidad, maybe t-shirts of the flag, there was nothing in the restaurant that represented Trinidad. Upon greeting we should have been asked whether we have been there before, and then explained how the food will come/be presented. The presentation was nice in individual bowls and I enjoyed the majority of food. The vegan frets, the dhal and chick pea curry were my favourite. I absolutely loved! The hot sauce, although I would have more of it. I was disappointed with the rum punch, we brought a bottle, but it was weak in strength. I expected it to be strong like what I have whilst in the Caribbean. In my view Limins has some work to do in order to give people that real Trini experience and the longing to come back for more.
A Trini friend from work recommended here and I’m glad I listened to her and not some of these other reviews! What a lovely spot for food and drink on a hot sunny day. The spicy margaritas were to die for. We shared a starter of Doubles which was enough for two. The curry goat was one of the best I’ve ever had. Staff were friendly. Attentive when needed. The only downside was a bit naughty - service is included in the bill but when handed the card machine I was told I needed to select an option before continuing. I hadn’t spotted service was included so asked “do you receive this”. Instead of pointing out I’d already paid for service she said yes! So I added a double tip. My fault really and in the end they deserved it given some of the terrible reviews here
Served by Renelle who was a great front of house. Made some great recommendations. She was the while vibe! We tasted a few of the starters. Cocktails delicious. Food (other than the plantain) wasn't hot which was only reason we marked down a star. Chips tasted like they had been reheated from previous day, but didn't go to a Caribbean restaurant to eat chips... highly recommend the Goat samosas! Would like to go again and try the main dishes.
The food was nice, but they didn't have any toppings for the doubles, so we just got the standard ones. They were the best part. My partner got the caramelised pork and said it was good but a small portion. I got the catch of the day and then realised that it was basically a twist on fish and chips. Again, it was nice, but I wasn't expecting battered fish, and it was a bit too much for me. The downside is that it was pretty overpriced, but I assume that due to the location, this is the reason.
